The peach orchard at the Sandhills Research Station includes a collection of peach varieties bred in North Carolina.

Peaches are a popular, high-value tree fruit crop that can be profitable in both large- and small-scale production systems. Commercial peach orchards are primarily located in the sandy soils of the Coastal Plains. Smaller orchards can also be found throughout the Piedmont. Site preparation is expensive and labor-intensive, but once established, a peach orchard remains productive for 15 to 20 years.
